POLICE are warning unsuspecting computer users to be vigilant after reports bogus traders are attempting to rip them off.
Residents in Chichester, Bognor and Worthing among other areas have been targeted by conmen offering 'laptops' for sale at 'reasonable' prices.
The bogus sellers tout for trade in various public places such as car parks, footpaths and car boot sal
es asking people if they want to buy a laptop.
If the answer is 'yes' the would-be customer is taken to a car where they are shown the computer.
Once they have parted with their cash in exchange for a laptop bag supposedly containing the computer however, they are given a rude awakening when they discover the bag filled with items such as old books, vegetables and catalogues.
By that time it is too late, the conman has driven off.
A spokesperson for Sussex police said: "It appears that the lap tops are not being sold at a bargain price, but appear to be genuine articles for a reasonable price.
"Police are asking members of the public to be wary as it would be better to pay the same money for a reasonable deal at a recognised retail outlet for computers."
