Its slogan says 'Every child matters, every child succeeds' – and this was certainly the case when Manhood Community College got its results from an Ofsted inspection.
Nearly all aspects within the school were graded above the national average and the report said the school is a 'good and rapidly improving college'.

The report marks a significant turnaround for the school, which was placed under special measures by Ofsted in 2005.

Executive headteacher Mark Vickers was also praised by inspectors, who said he has had an 'outstanding impact on the pace of development' for the school.

"I am delighted and pleased that Ofsted has recognised the progress we have made in the past few years," he said.

"I am extremely proud of the school and this gives us a high platform to continue our progress and aim for outstanding grades in all areas."

Operational headteacher Jackie Shepheard was also overjoyed with the report.

She said: "It's just fantastic. We aim to move forward and upwards. There's lots going on with the sports hall being built and with the school gaining specialist status.

"All staff have worked fantastically hard and everyone has responded to what needs to be done."

The school, of School Lane, Selsey, was given the best possible grading for its 'positive contribution to the community' when inspectors visited it in early June.

Improvements recommended to be made include setting work which challenges all students and also to give students more opportunities to assess their work.

The school is also aiming to improve attendance rates and ensure it tackles truancy.

Mr Vickers said: "The attendance rates in comparison to our other great results look bad, but in fact they are just average rates.

"We will be aiming to improve attendance next year."

An exciting era beckons for the school as its new sports facilities are scheduled to be completed in November. A multi-use outdoor games area and indoor court are part of the £2m project.

The school was also awarded a Specialist Science College status which will come into effect in September.
