A MOTOR boat owner has been fined £500 after speeding through Chichester Harbour at more than three times the legal limit.
Peter Shakeshaft of Brockham, Surrey, was caught driving his boat at more than 30 knots by a patrol officer.

The limit is eight knots. The officer trailed the boat for one nautical mile at 9.30pm on May 21.

When he cautioned him, Mr Shakeshaft
said he was testing his engine because he had just had it rebuilt.

He pleaded guilty at Chichester Magistrates' Court where he received the fine as well as court costs.

Speaking after the sentence, harbour master John Davis said: "This vessel had faulty navigation lights, and travelling at these speeds in failing light is clearly dangerous. The speed limit of eight knots is there for everyone's safety and will be rigorously enforced."
