MORE than 100 people put their best foot foward in Hastings' first Relay for Life.
Eight teams took part in the 24-hour event in aid of Cancer Research UK at William Parker School which began at noon on Saturday.
In turn, they walked or ran around the track making sure at least one team member was on the circuit at all times.
Hastings Mayor Maureen Charlesworth officially opened the event before completing a lap of honour and Town Crier John Batholomew was also on hand to get the participants off to rousing start.
A fete was also held at the grounds and activities included displays of kite flying, gymastics and tae kwon do.
After nightfall, a poignant Candle of Light ceremony was held when candles were placed around the track in memory of loved ones affected by cancer.
Music was provided by singer Lesley Davis and Tim Hickmott on bagpipes.
The teams continued striding around the circuit until noon on Sunday, despite rain throughout the morning.
Sarah Rajablee, Race for Life volunteer, said: "It was the first time Relay for Life has been held in Hastings and it was a success.
"Thank you to everyone who got inolved. Next year's event will take place at William Parker School on September 19 and 20 and we hope lots of people will take part."
