A pair in charge of a St Leonards pub who failed to heed council noise warnings have been fined £4,000 each.
Kevin Swoish, a former partner at the Old England pub in London Road, and Alison Burt, an ex-premises supervisor there, were due to appear before Hastings Magistrates Court last Friday for causing a noise nuisance.

The court heard that environmental health officers served Noise Abatement Notices on them on July 14 after complaints from residents about loud amplified music and singing.

But the problems continued and Swoish was given a final warning on August 8.

Magistrates heard that environmental health officers were again called out on the nights of August 14, 15 and 17 despite the warning, and found recorded noise disturbances on each occasion.

As a result, disco and karaoke equipment was seized from the premises the following week and detained pending the court hearing.
Neither defendants appeared at court last Friday but they were found guilty in absence.

In addition to the fines, magistrates issued a forfeiture order regarding the seized equipment and ordered the defendants to pay council costs of £341.
