An unemployed man became abusive towards Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) after they tried to confiscate his can of cider.
Grant Wassell, 32, of Marline Road, St Leonards, was spotted walking in town in an alcohol-free zone on July 25.

Prosecutor Mark Kateley said: "The officers intervened and tried to take away the cider but the defendant became aggressive and abusive, calling them 'jobsworths' and 'plastics'.

"He was arrested and taken into custody.

"While he was being searched officers found just over two grammes of cannabis in a small plastic bag in his possession.

"He said in interview that the PCSOs had 'made it all up' and added he had called them 'idiots'."

Wassell appeared before Hastings magistrates in court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to causing harassment, alarm and distress through his behaviour and possessing a Class C drug.

Aiden Harvey, defending, said: "The defendant admits he started shouting but denies using most of the words he allegedly said to the PCSOs.

"He said the can was snatched from him and he was pushed. This is why he reacted in the way he did."

Magistrates fined Wassell £90 and ordered £60 costs.
