With Hastings benefiting from a growing reputation as the comedy epicentre of the South Coast, the Observer headed down to the town's most popular comedy night to see what all the fuss is about.
Not content with showing The Observer why comedy was doing so well, organisers of Laugh It Up at Venue M wanted the reporter to experience it himself.

So, with about a week's notice, intrepid wordsmith Richard Morris headed down to Venue M to take part in the night's proceedings.

Armed only with a host of questionable gags would our reporter thrive or sink amid a sea of heckles?
