Despite the ominous weather, Hastings residents turned out to line the streets as the 47th Regiment Royal Artillery was given the freedom of Hastings.
Known as the Hampshire and Sussex Gunners, Sussex's own army regiment presented itself to the Mayor and other dignitaries in a moving ceremony by the Town Hall and, later, in Alexandra Park.
