FOUR Crawley youths were arrested after a boy was left battered and bleeding outside his schoolgates.
The youngster was rushed to hospital with a smashed face after he was brutally beaten moments after finishing lessons.

Trouble flared when the pupil at Downlands Community School in Hassocks was confronted by a group of older youths in an after-school ambush last Monday (November 17).

The sickening attack happened as a crowd of horrified teachers and kids looked on.

Headmaster Walter Clarke wielded an umbrella as he stepped in to defend the year 11 student.

Three other teachers and a bus driver also went to help the lad during the fracas just after 3pm.

The 15-year-old was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Brighton where he was treated for fractures to his face.

Four males from the Crawley area were arrested for offences including affray, GBH and assault. They have all been bailed pending further enquiries.
