Jobs threat for Crawley firm

JOBS AT a plumbing and building supplies firm which has five branches in Crawley are at risk, it has been announced.
Wolseley plc has revealed plans to cut 2,000 jobs and close more than 200 branches in the UK and Ireland.

The firm has sites across the district trading as Build Center, Plumb Center and related companies.

Wolseley spokesperson Tom Williams sai
d: "There are no specifics with regards to location or region.

"The reason for that is that the consultation period will now start with managers across the country.

"You can presume reductions will take place over the next few months but in terms of specifics there is not any."

The Reading-based firm said the moves reflected its expectations for a further decline in trading.

Wolseley, which operates more than 1,900 branches in the UK and Ireland, said the latest job cuts would be phased over the next few months.

The Crawley branches are BUILD CENTER in Telford Place,
CLIMATE CENTER at Fleming Way Industrial Estate, PARTS CENTER and PLUMB CENTER, Oakwood Estate, Gatwick Road and BUILD CENTER, Whittle Way.
