CHRISTOPHER FREEMAN passed away peacefully, in a bed overlooking his garden and surrounded by loved ones, on Monday morning, 16th August. He would have been 89 on September 11th. Chris's life spanned many roles: soldier on the Western Front, political organiser, loving father, nature lover and founder of Sussex University's Science Policy Research Unit, now part of the Freeman Centre. His teachings and writings created a whole new understanding about the role of science and technology policy for economic growth and social progress. Chris leaves a widow, Carlota, five children, Daisy, Susie, Kathy, Tom and Alan, and countless friends, colleagues, and students all over the world. The service will be held on Thursday, 26 August at 12.30pm for 1pm, at Pelham House Hotel, St Andrews Lane, Lewes BN7 1UW.
