Regarding your report in Friday 10 February edition “Bonfire in Lewes”. It was stated that there are eight societies in Lewes including the new Phoenix Society. We wish to point out that at no time have we ever considered ourselves a bonfire society.

It seems to me that two quite distinct issues have become confused as the “problems” of Seaford’s beach have been discussed in the columns of your paper.

WE would ask East Sussex County Council to consider very carefully the application by Veolia to increase traffic to the incinerator over Bank Holidays. Surely there is more at stake to it than just this item. At present, among Newhaven residents we know and have spoken to recently, confidence in local Government is at an all time low.

THE centre two page spread by E.ON UK about the Rampion offshore wind farm shows in the third paragraph an example how these proposals are dressed up to make the public think that they are the answer to our future energy problems but closer inspection shows that to be not so.

We would like to let your fitness-minded readers know they still have a chance to put their best foot forward for the British Red Cross in April’s Brighton Marathon.
