Festive cheer from grocer
Rouser 2012
With Christmas getting close, Rouser thought readers might like to see this circa-1900 yuletide greetings card sent out to customers by one T. G. Roberts, grocer of Lewes.
It reads: ‘This card is intended to convey our good wishes for Xmas and the New Year.
‘As we look back upon the hard road we have travelled during the year just ending, we acknowledge with grateful thanks the support of our customers and the patience extended to us in the various difficulties we have been faced with.
‘Our keenest efforts will be used to maintain supplies satisfactorily in the months ahead - until the dawn of the brighter days to which we all so confidently look forward.’
