Opening up the landscape

Rouser 2012

Rouser 2012

AN IMPORTANT occasion, captured on May 5, 1993. Pictured are Mike Guy, head ranger of the Seven Sisters Country Park, and Stephen Ankers, county council chief environmental planner, at the hand-over of land at Chyngton Farm, near Seaford, to the county council and the National Trust.

The council agreed a total financial package of £40,000 to secure the land, which forms part of the Cuckmere Valley. It was announced at the time that the area would from henceforth benefit from better conservation and management.

The announcement continued: ‘Chyngton Farm is a landscape of outstanding quality. It dominates the famous view from Exceat Hill and forms much of the valley floor and slopes beyond. The area can now be incorporated within the county council-owned Seven Sisters County Park, giving access for local people and visitors.’
