Your Letters
Letter: Report noise from turbine
Dereck Wade is not alone in reporting Glyndebourne turbine noise problems (‘Celebrity launch for wind turbine’, January 20). There are other unsolicited, independent, credible reports.
8 commentsLetter: Council never consulted Lewes cinema
Interesting to see that the commercial organisation of Lewes Cinema was not told of the decision by Lewes Town Council to ‘take over’ the running of the cinema in All Saints, Lewes.
Letter: Our objections misconstrued
I AM disturbed to read the inaccurate reporting of the proposed JPK development in the Old Town, Eastbourne, of the Edgmond Church contained in the Hailsham and Eastbourne edition of the Sussex Express under the Parish Pump item referring to ‘Willingdon,Wannock and Jevington’ and the apparent vilification of those of us not living in ‘Willingdon, Wannock and Jevington’, who have dared to show our concerns over the effect that the proposed development will have on our property in Old Town.
Letter: What future for this Lewes ‘hospital’?
What future for the Victoria ‘Hospital’ in Lewes, where the wards are closed, now that it is essentially an office-hours treatment centre for operations for anyone choosing Lewes for their treatment, and a day-time minor injuries unit?
Letter: Seaford - public input welcomed
Seaford Town Council welcomes the interest, views and concerns of the residents of Seaford and does all it can to help solve any concerns and problems.
Letter: Abandonment of Seaford?
Bob Brown may, or may not, be correct when he speculates that the long term solution for Seaford beach is the construction of “some sort of offshore barrier”, but he is certainly right to predict it “would not be cheap”! (Express, January 27)
Letter: Barrier in sea is the answer
In reply to the letter by David Swaysland “Sea Defences:Action Needed” in the Sussex Express January 20, I agree that action is required now to provide a more durable sea defence at Seaford.
Letter: Strange silence from our MP
THERE have been two major issues occupying your pages for several weeks: the projected housing developments around Horsham and the future of the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre.
Letter: Thanks for donations
ON behalf of The Rotary Club of Seaford I would like to thank all those who contributed to our Christmas collection last month.
Letter: Want to run for a good cause?
Have any of your readers been lucky enough to secure a place in this year’s Brighton Marathon through the public ballot?
Letter: Early blooms - it’s not a record
WHILE it cheered me up on a cold, wet day to see the photograph of two early blooming daffodils in last week’s paper, I’m afraid it is not a record.
Letter: Thanks for Christmas Post support
ON behalf of Commercial Square Bonfire Society, we would like to thank all those who supported our Christmas Post Delivery Service 2011 which raised just over £800 for the society, representing the delivery of approximately 5,500 cards.
Letter: We are not all in it together
IN contrast to his confident stance last year, the Prime Minister presents us with a gloomy economic outlook for 2012. But given the poor performance of the Con/Dem tie-up these past 18 months, what were any of us really expecting?
Letter: Evidence of global warming?
DESPITE the heavy fall of snow in the early part of 2010/11 winter, it is of interest to know that no snow fell in Hailsham between January 1 and December 31 of 2011.
Letter: Alternatives to Iron Lady
Re Derek McMillian’s view of the ‘Iron lady’ film, Communist Arthur Scargill has always lived in a luxury, rent-free apartment in the Barbican LDN, resisting all attempts to get him out from its owners the Democratic Union of Miners. The strike he started was doomed from the begining due to his refusal to hold a ballot (knowing he’d lose).
Letter: Ludicrous, biased left-wing rant
WHAT a ludicrous, biased, left-wing rant by Derek McMillan of Horsham about Margaret Thatcher in your correspondence column last week. I notice that Mr McMillan did not declare his political interest (although this was very clear in his diatribe) and I am surprised that he did not include other left-wing claims about Mrs T – such as that she ate babies and little children at breakfast.
Letter: Future of Homefield
THE future of Homefield Place in Seaford will be up for discussion in the near future. As a District and Town Councillor I shall be saddened if Seaford were to lose yet another infrastructure.
Letter: Take the cash out of scrap
HOMES, churches, schools and businesses in the county are all suffering increasing levels of metal theft, with lead roofs, copper piping and electronic cabling all considered fair game.
Letter: Sea defences - action needed
IT was an interesting coincidence that both Peter Bailey’s Memory Lane piece and the news item “Project to tackle climate change” appeared in the January 13 edition. For many years after it was built, engineers blamed the new, extended Newhaven Harbour breakwater for the loss of shingle on the beaches of Seaford Bay.
Letter: Right decision over Newhaven Eastside
THE decision to defer Avalon’s planning application for Newhaven Eastside is the correct one.
Letter: Where Baker is so wrong
THOSE in favour and those not in favour of the EU can and will disagree until they are all blue the face, but where he is so wrong is that he will not allow the people to decide.
Letter: Runners for charity sought
HAVE any of your readers been lucky enough to secure a place in this year’s London Marathon through the public ballot?
Letter: Support local Lewes businesses
THE Lewes Pound continues to support the local economy where it can in the face of the current financial, environmental and social challenges.
Letter: Road chaos will be our lot
THE grandiose proposals and articles in the press over the last few months for the redevelopment of Eastern Newhaven Harbour, railway area/new housing etc, etc, gives the impression that should such schemes be adopted 100s of new jobs and a variety of new housing and businesses will halt the decline of Newhaven.
Letter: Double standards
YOUR shocking front page story rightly condemns the horrific blow pipe attacks on the ducks at Pells Pond in another sad example of mindless cruelty inflicted upon defenceless animals for ‘fun’.
Letter: Your chanceto Shine
THE charity Shine is looking for any runners who are still looking for a place in the 2012 Brighton Marathon.
Letter: Thank you for the lights
WE would like to thank everyone who so generously donated towards the Christmas lights in Browns Lane this year, which have raised more money than ever before.
Letter: Vital role of the CCE
I AM writing with regards to the proposed closure of the Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) at the University of Sussex which, if it goes ahead, will have a significant impact on the Sussex community.
Letter: Planning policy - time running out
I AM increasingly concerned about the Government’s planning reforms. They’re right to talk about protecting green belts, national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty when decisions are made about where development should take place, but what about the 60 percent of England’s countryside that is none of these things – like a lot of our countryside?
Letter: Choosing profit over education
I AM writing to you with regards to the recent proposed cuts to the Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) at the University of Sussex.
Letter: Is there not a recession - not in Lindfield?
NOTE to pet owners next year not only get the sedatives ready for November 5, bear them in mind for New Year’s Eve as well!
Letter: Newhaven desperate for development
THE headline about the proposed housing and supermarket development in Newhaven in last week’s Sussex Express was frustrating, “Eastside’s future remains unclear”. The same might be said of Lewes District councillors if they get this wrong. According to the article, the decision on the Eastside development will be “delayed to allow councillors to consider other similar proposals at the same time ... this would allow them to make the best choice for Newhaven, which would protect the town centre and kickstart regeneration.”
Letter: Sadist with blowpipe must be stopped
SO there is a lunatic on the loose with a blowpipe, who likes to cause suffering to animals. What causes people to be sadistic like this? This maniac had targeted ducks for enjoyment.
Letter: Chivalrous gents to rescue at Lewes
I WOULD like to express my thanks to all the kind gentlemen, who attempted to get the flat tyre off my car two weeks ago in the (what was) Lewes Magistrates Car Park. I am utterly useless when it comes to vehicle maintenance – my mind ‘blanking out’ instantly of any common sense.
Letter: Well done for big stay-away at Lewes
WOULD you kindly permit me, through your column, to thank the thousands, and I mean thousands, of Lewesians who refused to turn out to support the local Hunt on Boxing Day.
Letter: Proponents of Uckfield pitch are forward-looking
I refer to Cllr Marsh’s comments in your front page article on the ‘All Weather Pitch’ proposed for Uckfield.
Letter: Thanks for support given to Age UK
ON behalf of the staff and volunteers at Age UK East Sussex in Lewes I would like to say a special thank you to the local community for your support during 2011.
Letter: Don’t forget your elderly Seaford neighbours
THE charity Contact the Elderly is urging residents of Seaford to not forgot their lonely, elderly neighbours – who feel the effects of social isolation 12 months of the year.
Letter: Seahaven radio station going strong one year on
ON Monday, January 9, 2012, it was one year since Seahaven FM went on air on 96.3fm as well as online at www.seahavenfm.com
