Football team needs help

Seahaven Harriers Young Women's Football Club – have you heard of them? Until four months ago, neither had I. What are they? A local football club in our community, providing young women in Seaford, Newhaven and Peacehaven access to the great British sport we all love.

The club is made up of a committee of six, six or seven team managers with assistants (who are all volunteers), but, more importantly, there are around 100 young women dedicated to playing football.

Members pay a membership fee and a fee for training and matches. But, even with the fundraising, Seahaven Harriers struggle. The majority of the costs are on training grounds and match venues.

The grounds they use for matches are constantly flooding or are unfit to play on due to lack of upkeep.

What they need is a piece of land of their own to enable them to run their own club, look after their own pitch and do what they do best – play football without the worry. The committee, managers, assistants, parent and grandparents (of which I am one) are doing the best they can but, as always, it is down to only a few. Can you help – perhaps lend a hand, find some land, make a donation or do some fundraising? Play the game, spread the name – and support them.

Stan Martin,

Newhaven
