Letter: Right decision over Newhaven Eastside

THE decision to defer Avalon’s planning application for Newhaven Eastside is the correct one.

This is a substantial development which will encroach on the Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve and change the shape of Eastside for ever. It is right and proper that the council wishes to compare all the applications together and not be “bounced” into a premature decision.

Avalon’s application does not “regenerate” Newhaven: it does not re-utilise any brownfield sites (of which there are many in the town), but it proposes to impose a housing village and superstore on a greenfield site.
