Letter: What future for this Lewes ‘hospital’?

What future for the Victoria ‘Hospital’ in Lewes, where the wards are closed, now that it is essentially an office-hours treatment centre for operations for anyone choosing Lewes for their treatment, and a day-time minor injuries unit?

And what future for the League of Friends of Victoria Hospital and their £1.3 million bank balance collected from local people in order to support and retain a hospital in the town?

Our funding of health services grows all the more strange, with many people now paying in to private insurance schemes to bypass queues, when the provision based on need is supposed to be readily available.

A E Beaumont,

Lewes
