We couldn't do without Tesco

My wife and I are "up in arms" about the so-called protest in Lewes' Tesco which you reported on.

Not only were we put off from doing our usual weekly Saturday shop, our young daughter found their masked antics quite scary.

I had to drive across to the other side of Bexhill instead – how green is that then! It's also my taxes that pay for the police to make sure these things don't get out of control.

My pension (and most likely their's) is probably invested in Tesco – so we all lose out if it suffers.

And what bit of "free market" don't they understand? People aren't forced to go there. The shop must be doing something right if they can make it 50 percent bigger.

Finally, think of all the extra parking spaces provided free by Tesco which draws in visitors and allows them to pop for half an hour to the local shops in Cliffe and so on.

As a local businessman I say we'd be a lot worse off without them!

John Cornell, Bexhill
