THE Pamphilon Theatre Club's November play embraces the spirit of Christmas with Miracle on 34th Street, a new play for the whole community that promises to warm the coldest of places through long winter nights.
Welcome to New York. Welcome to wintertime 1947. Welcome to Miracle on 34th Street - Valentine Davies' classic holiday tale in which the real Santa Claus is hired to play himself at Macy's department store is brought to Uckfield by Farnham Maltings T
heatre company which is funded by the Arts Council to develop Rural Touring theatre in the South East region.
The old man's gentle joyous spirit and magical powers soon transform those around him, including a little girl and her world weary mother.
Miracle on 34th Street has been described as a 20th century Christmas carol. In 1947 the original film starred Maureen O'Hara as the mother and Natalie Wood as the little girl but many will remember Richard Attenborough's appearance as the old man in the 1994 remake.
Now Farnham Maltings has transformed everyone's favourite Christmas story into two hours of magical rough edged theatre complete with santa's grotto, thanksgiving parade and newly fallen snow.
The Pamphilon, in the grounds of Uckfield Community Technology College, provides the perfect place to see rural touring theatre of the highest quality.
Tickets to Miracle on 34th Street on Friday, November 27 cost £8 (students £4). For enquiries ring 01825 762171.
