A nurse undertook a gruelling challenge in Iceland in August to raise money for St Michael's Hospice.
Sue Marsh, nursing sister, for the charity's Hospice at Home service, said she enjoyed the trek but found it physically and mentally tough.

She said: "The conditions were amazing, with sunburn on one day, bad storms the next, with lashing rain an
d snow and winds of more than 90 mph.

"There were also precarious mountain trails and slippery paths 1,000 metres up, river crossings in strong currents, abseiling into a canyon, crossing expanses of snow and ice, and sleeping in damp clothes.

"But there was fantastic scenery and a team spirit."

Thanks to the generosity of her family, friends, colleagues and patients she has raised a staggering £8,500 which includes £241 raised in sponsorship by the pupils at Blacklands School.

Marcia Dart, the hospice's challenge event fundraiser, said: "You have to be really fit both physically and mentally to undertake a challenge like this and Sue has come through with shining colours and has raised a phenomenal amount of money for Hospice at Home. We are very proud of her."
