FIRE crews rushed to reports of a roof fire - only to find it was diesel smoke, the result of a generator starting up.
Five pumps from Horsham and Crawley fire stations along with an aerial ladder platform, attended the scene at the Royal and Sun Alliance building on Chart Way.

But the clouds of smoke that sparked an alarmed member of the public to dial 999, turned out to be the result of a generator starting up.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a roof fire in Horsham, but it was a generator starting up and producing a lot of diesel smoke.

"Horsham had to send the aerial ladder platform and there were five pumps altogether."
