EDUCATION chiefs announced proposals to merge Billingshurst Infant and Junior Schools today (Wednesday October 1).
West Sussex County Council is launching a consultation to examine the case for change.

A public meeting will be held on Tuesday October 21 at The Weald School in Station Road to discuss the scheme.

County council education boss Peter Griffiths said: "There is clear evidence that children do better in their education if there is no change in school half way through the primary sector.

"We also believe that there are many other benefits to the merger including the flexibility to share facilities and equipment and better career development for staff.

"No decisions have been made yet and it is very important that parents and the local community use this consultation as a chance to ask questions, express their concerns or indeed indicate their support for the governing bodies recommendations."

The schools are both based in Upper Station Road.
