FOOTBALLERS of yesteryear: Sue Jones of Ringmer contacted Rouser to say: ‘I wondered if you would like to print the attached photo in your weekly column. It is believed to be the Lewes Football Club team around 1900.

‘The man on the far right of the photo, wearing the bowler hat, is my grandfather Oscar Baker. I was led to believe that he used to help coach the team back in its very early days.

‘Maybe your readers can confirm whether or not it is the Lewes team or name any of the other people in the photo.

‘Another point of interest: Oscar was the first man in Lewes to drive a Foden steam wagon. He was emplyed by Beards Brewery.’
