Guitar 'heaven' at the Hawth, Crawley

GREAT guitarists will be a theme running through the new season at Crawley's Hawth Theatre.

Among the guitar-themed shows are:

Acoustic Guitar Heaven 2, Friday February 26, 8.15pm, Studio. Three of the most talented acoustic guitarists performing in the UK today. Soul acoustic singer-songwriter Jon Gomm has a virtuoso guitar style, Byron Johnston has gained great acclaim for his acoustic fusion and highly-original playing, and 19-year-old John Dignam has already played with some of the world's finest guitarists including Tommy Emmanuel and Clive Carroll.

Tommy Emmanuel, Monday March 8, 7.30pm, Theatre. Back after his last sell-out show, two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel returns.

Koshka, Monday March 22, 8.15pm, Studio. Conservatoire-trained Russian fiddlers Oleg Pomonarev (formerly of Gypsy band Loyko) and Lev Atlas (principal viola with Scottish Opera) and acoustic guitarist Nigel Clark met in Glasgow and honed their style playing at the city's intimate Russian Cafe Cossachok. As a trio, Koshka now stand at the cutting edge of gypsy string music.

Johnny Dickinson and Paul Lamb, Friday March 26, 8.15pm, Studio. After working together in the early 90s in The King Snakes, Lamb and Dickinson are back together. Johnny is one of the most potent slide players in the UK and Paul has collected a bagful of awards including six years as Best UK Harmonica Player and four-time winner of Best UK Blues Album (BBC Blues Awards).

The Paul Malsom Trio, Thursday April 15, 8.15pm, Studio. Influenced by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendes and Charlie Byrd, the Trio also explore contemporary genres such as hip hop and funk.

Nigel Bagge Band, Wednesday April 21, 8.15pm, Studio.

A great night of smoky vocals, fiery but sensitive guitar and classic acoustic to contemporary electric blues with a touch of country, soul and rocking R&B.

Nigel's blues CV includes Duck Soup, Blues Corporation, The Mighty 45s, Desperate Dan Band and playing with Angela Brown and Eddie Armer.
