PLAY: Tales Of The Thames

REGULAR visitors and waterway wanderers, The Mikron Theatre Company continue their 2009 tour with visits to Wisborough Green and Donnington with their new play about the River Thames.

Mikron's general manager Peter Toon said: "The canals and rivers have been Mikron's natural home since their formation 38 years ago so it's really only natural that after clocking up several thousand miles on England's waterways they should write and present a play about Old Father Thames."

Tracing the adventures of three unlikely but highly-likeable misfits as they journey along the river, Tales Of The Thames presents a kaleidoscopic view of the UK's premier waterway from small and humble beginning in pastoral countryside to the often turbulent meeting with the North Sea at Gravesend where tugs once plied their trade bringing cargo from all over the world to the Port of London.

Peter says: "Gone are Mole, Ratty and Toad, making way for Mr Itchington Scrattit, Ab and Roly, a loveable yet hopeless trio who set out with more hope than planning to row the full length of the river to discover some of its incredibly-diverse history.

"From cranes dipping in respect at Churchill's funeral to lighters and slippers, Mikron's blend of story-telling will leave you laughing out loud one moment and reflecting on sombre events the next, whilst holding you spellbound throughout."

Touring the waterways of England in their trusty companion, Tyseley, a converted narrowboat, which functions as both home and mode of transport, Mikron will be bringing Tales Of The Thames to Fishers Farm Park's Theatre, Wisborough Green, on July 2, curtain up at 7.30pm (further information on 01403 752403); and to Donnington Parish Hall on July 4, curtain-up at 7.30pm (further information on 01243 576701).
