Squeeze reunion to help Haitian crisis fund

A MINI Squeeze reunion will help raise cash for the Haiti earthquake crisis at a benefit gig at Coastal Coffee House, Rustington.

Squeeze bassist John Bentley and his wife Sara, who live in East Preston, were keen to do something in response to the earthquake disaster.

They were soon joined by Squeeze singer Chris Difford who will be joining John for a Squeeze set on the night, raising funds for Shelterbox - Haiti quake crisis.

The gig on Friday January 29 sees them share the bill with The Mick Koumis Project.

Sara said: "There will also be a charity raffle, including a fab spa day generously donated by Bailiffscourt Spa. Lots of local businesses are donating fantastic prizes... hair salons, children's books, etc etc."

Tickets are 5 available from Coastal Coffee in advance or on the door, with a 7.30pm start.

Sara said: "Johnny and I did a similar thing for the tsunami when we were living in Cornwall, and it was such a fantastic night. When we heard about Haiti, I just felt so helpless. I just wanted to get on the plane and take off and do something, but I couldn't do that, and so we are doing this.

"Johnny straight away said he would do it, and I ran with that. Chris is on my Facebook group, and we chat often. He said 'I am happy to do whatever you want.'"

The night will see John and Chris getting together at the start of what should be a momentous year for Squeeze whose hits included Up The Junction, Cool For Cats and Labelled With Love.

The band got together again a couple of years ago for a succession of highly-acclaimed tours, including a memorable night at Chichester's Real Ale And Jazz Festival.

"Squeeze is going to go mad this year," Sara said. "It is going to be the big one. This is what they have been working up to."
