Duo Cantilena are the guests at Chichester’s Music On Sundays club on Sunday July 31 at 2.30pm at Christ Church, Old Market Avenue, Chichester.
Cantilena is a duo with a fast-rising reputation; a flute and piano ensemble that was founded in 2007 by Odinn Baldvinsson and Patricia Romero.
Their repertoire is an eclectic mix of the well-known and the rarely-heard, ranging from Bach to Piazzola.
Odinn Baldvinsson studied at the London College of Music, graduating with honours. He made his debut recital in Reykjavik, and has since performed at music clubs and festivals in England, Switzerland and France.
In 2006 he performed in a series of concerts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He was principal flute with the Millennium Sinfonia, and freelances regularly in and around London. In addition to performing, he runs a private teaching practice in North London.
Patricia Romero studied at Trinity College of Music. She made her debut at the Wigmore Hall and has since performed in many of London’s principal concert venues. She came to international prominence as the winner of the Yamaha International Piano Competition in Mexico City and was awarded the Clara Haskill prize for her Schumann interpretations in Montreux, Switzerland.
In 1994, Patricia performed the complete solo piano works of Ravel at the Purcell Room, repeating this feat in Mexico City two years later. In addition to her solo work she has given lecture recitals and has a long and varied career in chamber music.
Their programme for Chichester will be: J S Bach; Sonata No. 6; C M Widor - Suite for Flute and Piano, Op. 34; F Borne - Fantaisie brillante sur Carmen; A Piazzola - Histoire du Tango; and O Taktakishvili - Sonata for Flute and Piano
