Five mothers and daughters among the company will give it a family feel when BROS Musical Productions take to the stage with their May show, The Sound Of Musicals, a spectacular night of songs from the shows.
Mums and daughters taking part are Lisa and Madeleine Ursell, Sarah and Olivia Lloyd, Liz and Danielle Lawrence, Maria Stewart and Georgina Longcroft and Tracy and Amy Clayton.
Tracy said: “Taking you on a journey through the glorious world of musical theatre, the show features songs from current and recent West End shows such as Mamma Mia, Les Misérables, Sister Act, Wicked, Mary Poppins and The Sound Of Music as well as rarely-performed musicals like Pippin, Merrily We Roll Along and the recent movie musical, Nine.
“We are delighted that this production sees the number of children involved with the company going from strength to strength. We have a team of 18 children doing songs from shows such as The Wizard Of Oz and Hairspray – and it’s fantastic to also have five mother/daughter relationships amongst our 40-strong cast!
“The five mothers have over 100 years of BROS membership between them, and we’re hoping that our children continue to experience the fun and friendship that we have gained from being involved with BROS Musical Productions.”
Kate Bennett, who has compiled the show and is directing it, said she drew on her love of musicals to put it all together: “It’s hard work! You have got to find the right number of chorus songs, the right number of solo songs and duets, and you have got to ring the changes to make sure that you have got the right mix. I have tried to combine more modern and current shows with the older ones that everyone loves.
“I always try to see as many shows as I can. I try to see the new shows. I go to the old shows. You’ve got to have a good opening number. You’ve got to have a good finale. You have got to have a good Act Two opener. I think you have got to have an instinct for it.”
With ticket prices at £10 and under, The Sound Of Musicals will be at the Alexandra Theatre, Regis Centre, Bognor Regis from Thursday, May 26-Saturday, May 28, evenings at 7.30pm, Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets on 01243 861010 or www.regiscentre.co.uk.
