Lewes Rouser fan Valmai Goodyear has a ripe old tale to tell. She says: ‘Your readers might enjoy the sight of this enormous and eye-watering marrow which escaped through a fence on the public side of St John’s Terrace, Lewes.

It is about 100 metres from the Elephant and Castle.

‘The pictures were taken by Mike Ward-Sale and Bryan Creer. I understand it may not last much longer. I think John Eccles should be invited to interview it.’
