They say Lewes once boasted seven churches, seven breweries and 70 hostelries.

This fine photograph shows the New Station Inn at the bottom of Station Street in Lewes a century ago.

It didn’t last long. Somewhat disgracefully, it was closed and demolished in 1963 to give traffic better visibility at the corner of Lansdown Place.
