THINGS are getting confused about the ‘lost house near Lewes’ pictured in the Rouser of July 27.
One Tony Hooton writes: ‘The house near Lewes on an Edwardian postcard is Sellens in East Hoathly, opposite the Foresters public house. It has been substantially restored since then.’
But MP Norman Baker says: ‘I haven’t been out to check, but are your three cottages (John Kay’s picture) possibly Polecat Cottages in Firle?’
While Simon Suter suggests: ‘Hello Rouser, we met several years ago over a pint in the Gardeners with Andrew Potts. The photo looks like Upper Wellingham Farmhouse, Wellingham Lane, Ringmer, owned by our good friends Nat and Sally Trotman.’
So we’re still in dark!
l Steve Ziegler has this to say on a different subject: ‘With the 100th anniversary of the First World War fast approaching, you may be interested in a project I am working on.
‘It involves complete news reports taken from the Sussex Express for Warbleton parish for the entirety of the war. I have just completed the project after hours at the Records Office. I am doing this in conjunction with the Warbleton History Group and still need to fine tune a little here and there.’
