Dad’s Army was - and still is - one of the finest television series ever made.

This photograph shows a re-enactment group called The Real Dads Army.

It had its origins in the Home Guard section of the Fort Newhaven Military Display Team, a multi-unit World War Two group founded in 983.

Members had presented the historic mode of the Home Guard from time to time but in 1993 a serious attempt was made to compile a ‘hands on’ tribute to Dads Army.

Here they are in 1994 being presented council leader Mary Hurst. She seems to be taking an unhealthy interest in an oil barrel.
