POLEGATE windmill has been blessed with its biggest ever legacy given in a will.
Lawrence Stevens, clerk at the mill, learnt two weeks ago that £22,000 was given to the mill to help its future development.

Bernard 'Bunny' Owens, a volunteer at the site for many years, left the money after he died in September 2006.

Mr Stevens said it was the highest amount of money ever left to the mill by an individual.

He added: 'Bunny used to say he had left something to the mill but I did not think it was that much.

'We will keep the money as an emergency fund.

'I was very surprised but he always interested in the mill and would often come round and have a look at it.'

If you would like to get involved in Polegate windmill's activities contact Mr Stevens on 01323 734496.
