East Sussex County Council's planning committee voted four to three in favour of a sewage works at Lower Hoddern Farm, Peacehaven.

The scheme, dubbed Poohaven, is a waste water treatment and sewage works submitted by Southern Water.

Anti sewage works campaigner John Hodgson from PROUD (Peacehaven Residents Objecting to Urban Development) said:

'What worries me today is the damage I think has been done to the democratic process.

'One chap said as he left he would never enter a polling booth again.

'But the fight goes on.'

The bid will now be considered by the secretary of state as it is not in keeping with the county council's development plan.
