POWER drills were used to pierce fuel tanks on two vehicles in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
The vehicles were both parked in the Maresfield village car next to the village hall.

Once the tanks were drilled, fuel was siphoned out.

Firecrews were summoned to the site at 9.15am to wash the area down.

Village resident Graham Allt said: 'The vehicles were parked near a wooden building.

'If the drilling had caused sparks the tanks could have gone up killing the thieves and causing a huge amount of damage.

'Police were very concerned.

'I have heard of siphoning petrol before but this takes it to a new level.'
