THE LEWES to Uckfield rail line is unlikely to be rebuilt in the near future after a long-awaited report concluded there was no money to pay for it.
MP Norman Baker said the verdict of the Network Rail report was 'disappointing' but pledged to keep fighting to reinstate the line.

Mr Baker sits on the Central Rail Corridor Board which was set up to assess the viability of the project.

He said the Network Rail report concluded the reinstatement of the line was 'feasible' and would make an operational profit when up and running, but the reinstatement costs could not be justified under the Department for Transport's present formula.

He told the Express: 'It is obviously disappointing that it's not full steam ahead, but there is enough in the report and coming down the track to conclude that the battle goes on.'
