OAP gets flying lesson for 90th birthday

NINETIETH birthdays are generally fairly sedate affairs but one Seaford thrill-seeker bucked that trend.
Chas Muir, of Northway, a former building engineer, celebrated by taking to the skies for a flying lesson.
The brother of late comedy writer and broadcasting personality Frank Muir, Chas served in the RAF in WWII. He worked as ground crew on Lancasters, sparking a lifelong interest in planes.
His daughter Carole MacInnes and her brother and sister, bought him a pleasure flight at Shoreham Airport to celebrate his birthday on March 16. Because of availability, he only took the flight last weekend.
Carole, of The Holt, said: 'He absolutely loved it. 'He was in the RAF in the Second World War. He was not a pilot but he has always had an interest in aircraft. We just thought it would be a great present. 'He went up with the pilot and, other than the take-off and landing, he flew himself for half an hour.
'He is still quite independent, still goes into town on his own and has got lots of interests. My husband went up with him. They had a great time.'
