A VILLAGE school cleverly used the talents of parents to promote a multi-lingual day.
Children at Blackboys School celebrated European Languages Day with visits from parents with a variety of first languages including Spanish, Turkish, Welsh and Russian.

Headteacher Jonquil King said: 'Lots of different activities took place including cooking, acting and singing.

'I became very conscious of the need to raise awareness of the importance of other languages and cultures when a youngster commented in assembly that not everyone abroad spoke English.

'We have a number of parents whose first language is not English and they were very happy to contribute to the day.

'Blackboys is a lovely village school and one of our aims is to raise the children's awareness of other cultures within the context of our local community as well as globally.'

With this in mind the school will be applying for International School accreditation and its European Languages Day helped start the process.
