A Lewes student is celebrating after achieving three A* grades and two As in his A-Level results this morning (Thursday, August 13).

Daniel Walvin secured A* grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, and A grades in Chemistry and Physics, and now hopes to progrss on to the University of Warwick to continue studies in Mathematics and Physics.

Daniel was one of a number of students celebrating success at Sussex Downs College, which achieved an overall pass rate of 97 per cent in both A-Level and advanced BTEC pathways.

In addition, students surpassed expectations by achieving 100 per cent pass rates in nearly three quarters of the courses available.

Melanie Hunt, principal and chief executive, said: “These results give our students a strong platform from which to progress to University and the workplace. Every year we know that the number of students receiving their first choice at university has been increasing; we are proud of them and wish them every success for the future.”

Lewes MP Maria Caulfield said: “I would like to congratulate all the pupils and staff for your results. I know that these achievements are the outcome of months and years of hard work. I hope your time at Sussex Downs College proves to be a springboard for those leaving to go on and achieve everything you wish.”
