Alarm over thefts spree at Wealden homes

POLICE report that at about 2.50pm on November 29 a white W registered Escort van was seen on a drive in Barn Lane, Framfield. Two men, one tall and skinny and the second, short and stocky, asked for scrap. At about 3pm the same men called at a house on Pound Lane, Framfield, asking to buy a vehicle parked on the drive.

Between 9.30pm, November 30-7.30am, December 1, thieves broke into a garage in School Lane, Danehill and stole an orange Stihl chainsaw worth £250.

On December 3, a thief broke into a converted garage in Priory Road, Forest Row, and stole an Acer laptop computer. In the early hours the same day, thieves broke into a shed in Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, and stole fishing equipment worth £2,500 including rods, reels, bank sticks, ‘bivvy’ tents and an unhooking mat. Police are also investigating break-ins reported to other sheds and garages at this time.

Between November 30-December 1 thieves stole a chainsaw from a garage in School Lane, Danehill. And during the early hours of December 1, a garage in Mallard Drive, Ridgewood was broken into and a Hayter Harrier 41cm petrol lawnmower worth £600 stolen.

Between 10.15am-7.30pm, December 3 a laptop computer and power supply were stolen during a break in to a property on Priory Road, Forest Row.

At about 1.30pm the same day a man driving a white “J” registration transit van was seen on a drive at a house on Crowborough Road, Nutley. The man knocked on the door and asked if the vehicle parked in the carport was for sale. Police said this was suspicious as the he would have had to look into the car to see that it was not taxed. He is described as white, 23/34 years old with a southern accent.
