BRIGHTON and Hove Albion’s new home, the stunning American Express Community Stadium at Falmer, is getting ready to stage its first wedding.
Kevin Attwood and Susan King are hoping to be the first couple to say ‘I do’ at the Amex on July 9 and they have already started planning the detail with the stadium’s expert wedding team.
Said Kevin, who has supported the football club since he was a child: “Susan and I were over the moon when we were told the news that the stadium would be applying for a wedding license and immediately put the wheels in motion to see if our preferred date was available.
“We have waited quite a while to tie the knot and we are incredibly excited at the thought of having our dream day at such an amazing venue.”
Shoreham-based Kevin and Susan were given a quick tour by Polly Harrison, who is heading up hospitality and events at the Amex, and the couple were delighted to discover the view from their reception room looks out over their recently acquired season ticket seats in the North Stand.
Said Polly: “The majority of our reception rooms have lovely views out over the stadium and up to the green backdrop of the South Downs, but I was just as surprised as Kevin and Susan to discover that their room overlooks their very own seats! We are confident that we will receive our license in time for their big day and we have already taken further bookings for July and August.”
The stadium is in the process of applying for its license, which can only be granted once the building is complete. The club has been advised by Brighton and Hove City Council’s Registration Service that, providing the application meets all the legal requirements, it will be dealt with promptly and the grant of approval for the license, issued without delay.
The stylish West Stand plays host to eight luxury lounges giving the new events team complete flexibility in their bespoke service for civil ceremonies and wedding receptions. While the stadium is being completed, the team can offer interested couples a virtual reality tour of the rooms available to help demonstrate the facilities that are on offer, as well as showing the sample menus created by award-winning head chef Frederick Tobin.
Fred has been working closely with Kevin and Susan to create a unique menu for their big day which will has a summer theme. He has encompassed their favourite ingredients to create their menu which is being kept tightly under wraps so not to spoil the surprise for the guests on the day.
All the facilities will be opened to the public at the stadium’s first ever Wedding Fayre on September 4 when organisers Stylish Events will host fully-choreographed fashion shows featuring top London show models.
