ALL three men arrested by police investigating the rape of a 17-year-old Hailsham girl in St Leonards-on-Sea are now on bail after detectives were given more time to question two of them.
Police were granted a further 36 hours (on February 3) to interview a 25-year-old man from St Leonards on suspicion of rape and a 20-year-old man, also from St Leonards, who was arrested on suspicion of money laundering, but then further arrested on suspicion of rape. They have both now been released on bail until March 24.
A 20-year-old man from St Leonards, arrested on suspicon of rape when a vehicle was stopped in St Leonards late on February 1, was released on conditional bail, as previously reported in the Sussex Express, until March 24.
The arrests followed the rape of the teenage girl when she walked alone at night in playing fields near Harrow Lane on January 14.
At the time police said two men approached her and one man punched her to the ground – holding her down so the other could rape her.
