Conran and Partners is set to begin work on detailed designs to restore Saltdean Lido following the award of almost £5m in Lottery funds.

The London and Brighton based architecture and design practice is a long-term supporter of the campaign to save the Lido and has advised extensively on its restoration and revitalisation. Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (CIC) has been granted a 60-year lease to operate the pool by Brighton and Hove City Council.

The 1930s art deco structure is the UK’s only Grade II*-listed lido and Conran will bring its expertise to the project.

The restored lido will have a heated outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor play areas, a cafe, a gym and a library.

Director of Conran and Partners Paul Zara said: “We are looking forward to seeing work begin on the Lido.

“A considerable amount of work has gone into securing funds and proving the Lido has a viable future – to be used by the community for the purpose for which it was originally designed.”
