AN ARMED robber wearing a motorbike helmet threatened staff at Saltdean Co-op with a handgun in broad daylight.
He confronted two security guards delivering cash to the ATM at the supermarket in Lustrells Lane on Monday July 4 and obtained the cash box.
Police said the store was targeted at 12 noon.
An accomplice drove a motorcycle onto the pavement outside the store and went inside armed with a crowbar.
The two security guards were directed out to their cash transit van and the robber, armed with the handgun, attempted to gain entry inside the cash van.
The female security officer inside the van activated the alarm and the two men left on the back of a motorcycle.
Detective sergeant Julie Greenwood said: “Although the security guards were threatened with a firearm they were not injured.
“There were a number of people seen entering this store who we would like to trace along with anyone who saw a black motorcycle in the area being driven suspiciously with a rider and pillion passenger.
“The rider of the motorcycle was wearing a black sweat top and dark jogging bottoms and a black helmet.
“The other man was dressed in jeans, a black jacket and wore a red and white motorcycle helmet.”
