Footpath closure set to end

THE CONTROVERSIAL closure of a Lewes footpath looks set to end a week early but traders are angry at the impact it's had on their businesses.

Jenners Way, the riverside walk which links Malling to Lewes Town Centre and the Cliffe, has been out of action since June 8, forcing pedestrians to cross the busy Phoenix Causeway.

The footpath is closed while the Environment Agency's contractors carry out work on a 1.5 project to build a flood wall to strengthen flood defences in the Cliffe.

On Monday (June 29) the EA met with traders to discuss their concerns and agreed to put up new signs.
