BBC Stargazing LIVE returns to the BBC from January 16-18. Last year the series was a huge success and inspired more than 300 partner-led Stargazing events, from Glen Nevis to Guernsey. More than 180 partners held events, with some 40,000 people getting a taste of astronomy, many for the very first time.
In 2012 there are bigger and better events all across the UK. On Sunday, January 20, the De La Warr Pavilion and the East Sussex Astronomical Society (www.esas.org.uk) are coming together to hold a free event for the whole family as part of this wonderful celebration of the solar system.
The event kicks off with an opportunity to take part in solar viewing on the terrace, and a chance to catch Venus as it becomes visible in the approaching twilight.
This fantastic activity is followed by a fascinating talk in the auditorium, and stargazing through telescopes. Activity packs will be available on the day.
Solar viewing on the terrace: Noon-4.30pm approx. (sunset)
Talk in the auditorium: from 4.30pm-7pm
Stargazing on the terrace: 7-9pm
This event is open to all ages and suitable for the whole family.
FREE entry, no need to book.
The De La Warr Pavilion galleries and bars are open during the evening.
