PEACEHAVEN Town Council’s Jubilee beacon lighting event on Monday June 4 was a great success with more than 500 people of all ages taking part.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Peacehaven Eileen Russell and the crowd was entertained by the Maestro Academy Players Jazz Band.
Catering for the event was provided by the Seahaven scouts active support team and the INAA charity who provided their African kitchen and the Great mobile bar company provided the drinks and bar.
Atmospheric lighting came from Roman torches and the official Queen’s Jubilee beacon was lit at the second attempt at 10.20.
Event organiser cllr Robert Robertson said: “The evening was atmospheric and whilst there was a slight delay in the lighting of the beacon this added to the atmosphere and there was a loud cheer when the beacon went up in flames.”
Town clerk Kevin Kingston said: “It was a great opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond jubilee and a great opportunity to bring the community together at a great event.”
