Sussex’s very own National Banger team are swapping the race track for the red carpet this month as they premiere a special documentary to raise money for charity.
The Bears, who race at Arlington Stadium and has members based in Lewes, created a light-hearted, two-hour feature following the team as they plan their huge summer charity meeting - The Bears Big Bash – to raise much-needed funds for the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.
With extensive footage from the day itself, the film highlights how incredibly successful the event is, raising more than £20,000 for the hospital, but also all the work that goes on behind the scenes to allow the event to go ahead.
The film, called The Bears, Part:2, had been planned for a Christmas release on DVD, but organisers behind the project saw the opportunity to raise some more money for their chosen charity by hosting a cinematic premiere.
Bears team captain Nigel Riley said: “When they heard we were planning a charity premiere, we were asked by local promoters to have the big reveal in other towns around the country, but where else could we hold it than in Sussex where we all come from?
“The senior management at Cineworld Brighton Marina were kind enough to offer us their facilities, and so we jumped at the opportunity.
“Being a large cinema allows plenty of our fans to come down and share this special event with us.”
This is the first time in its 60-year history the delights and entertainment of banger racing will be shown on the ‘big screen’.
The premiere will take place at Cineworld in Brighton Marina on Sunday, November 29, with the film starting at 10:30am.
Tickets cost £6 each, or four for £20, with all proceeds going to The Bears’ chosen charity, Rockinghorse, the charitable arm of The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. For tickets, call 01273 306479 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
