Beavers celebrate a success story of year since restarting

Newhaven Beavers at the 3rd Newhaven Scout Group had a party last Thursday to celebrate a year since the group restarted.

Beaver meetings stopped due to low numbers and the former leader leaving.

New leader Lorraine Prout restarted the group with three Beavers and a year later 19 marked the first birthday with a cake and cupcakes made by one of the mums.

Newhaven mayor Graham Amy, the youth mayor and honorary scout cllr Steve Saunders joined in the fun at the Scout Hut in Fort Road.

Also at the event were parents and future assistant leader Polly Pomfrey, assistant cub leader and scout leader Matt Holt, assistant leader Andy Stanyard, section assistant Vince O’Neill, cub arkela Melissa Thompson, group scout leader Bob Evans and beavers cubs and scouts assistant Mark Tuckey.

“The Beavers loved it,” said Lorraine.

“I’m really pleased and very proud of everyone’s efforts.

“We have gone from not being on the map at all to quite a success story in our district.”

Lorraine said they had received a town council grant to buy equipment.

During the evening three Beavers had their ceremony to move up to cubs.Beavers meet from 5pm to 6.30pm on Thursdays, cubs from 6.30pm to 8pm and scouts from 7pm to 9pm, all at the Scout Hut, Fort Road, Newhaven.
